Winamp 3 keeps the same look with previous versions, but similarities end here:
This new platform enables developers to redesign its interface using skins based on XML and to build custom component plug-ins that add dozens of functionalities to the media player.
Winamp's database media library gives easy access to music and video files no matter where they are located on your computer.
The new playlist editor has better sorting options and also has support for loading multiple playlists simultaneously.
Users can also browse for installed components through a new window named Thinger. This version includes a media library and a built-in crossfader and has a built in Lyrics3 extended tag editor. Lyrics3 is a tag format that allows longer file names in an MP3 but don’t compromise system speed like ID3v2. When editing ID3v2 tags, the entire file is rewritten, which implies some risk to the hard drive.
Winamp 3 allows you to manage and play audio and video files, enjoy free music and much more.
Advantages:
- Medialibrary, plays multiple video formats, better looking, Internet streaming.
Disadvantages:
- It's a little slower at start up than previous versions due to features added which the computer has to load when initialized.
